Here’s why YouTube views freeze at 301

It’s an immortal question, asked frequently by those new to YouTube or too lazy to research:  Why does Youtube get stuck at 301 views?  Youtube’s Numberphile has taken it upon himself to answer this question, and it has a lot to do with counterfeit views.

It turns out it’s a pretty easy answer:  At a point in time, some guy or girl at YouTube decided that once a video got 300 views, an analysis would be done on the video.  The analysis verifies that the view counter wasn’t being gamed, so YouTube doesn’t pay people ad money they don’t deserve.  Any shenanigans will be caught, and action will be taken to prevent fraud.

But why 301, as opposed to 300?  That’s around 5:50 in the video.

Next number question:  Why was 6 afraid of 7?
